Biography

Patrick Stanbro was born in a suburb of Baltimore, Maryland but spent his youth in Los Alamos, New Mexico. This city, an island of science and technology in a state otherwise known for its art and culture, proved to be the ideal setting for Patrick's emerging interest in photography. As a relief volunteer in Central America, Patrick found his voice though the eye of the camera and upon returning, commenced his formal study of photography. While Patrick explored all aspects of photography, he discovered he was most keenly interested in the complex science and technology involved in the craft.

In 1999, Patrick entered the curriculum of computer sciences at University of California, Santa Barbara, however, he quickly realized that his true interest was in photography. Fortunately, Santa Barbara is also home to the renowned Brooks Institute of Photography. The summer before studying at Brooks, Patrick interned at the Santa Fe Photography Workshops where he was primarily influenced by the work of Keith Carter and Joyce Tenneson.

Patrick graduated with honors from Brooks in September 2003, receiving the Industrial/Scientific department award. He is currently enrolled in the Brooks masters program studying ultraviolet photography beyond the capabilities of glass optics. At present, Patrick also assists Dr. Austin Richards in the area of thermal imaging. Patrick's work with Dr. Austin has been featured in several scientific journals while Words and Images, published by the University of Southern Maine in April 2004, will feature a fine art print created by Patrick. Patrick's interest lies in creating images through merging his technical and artistic abilities.
